El m\u00edtico lugar funcion\u00f3 desde 1964 hasta 1999, cuando la familia Almenara decidi\u00f3 vender la esquina donde hoy funciona una estaci\u00f3n de servicio. Pol\u00edticos, actores, deportistas y cientos de miles de comensales pasaron por el restor\u00e1n del \u201cUruguayo\u201d<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Uno de los vecinos m\u00e1s reconocidos de Ingeniero Maschwitz falleci\u00f3 en las \u00faltimas horas. Y con \u00e9l, se va una parte de ese pueblo que ya casi no existe. Se trata de Uruguay Almenara, due\u00f1o del m\u00edtico Restor\u00e1n Popeye, que por 35 a\u00f1os existi\u00f3 en la entrada a la localidad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El \u00aburuguayo\u00bb falleci\u00f3 en su casa de la calle Falucho, a metros de Santiago del Estero, en Maschwitz. Desde 1964 hasta su venta en 1999, lider\u00f3 el restor\u00e1n que marc\u00f3 una \u00e9poca.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El restor\u00e1n se instal\u00f3 con instalaciones de madera, techo de paja, en un amplio predio ubicado en la intersecci\u00f3n de Villanueva (de tierra, en aquel entonces), la vieja Ruta 9 y la calle Paso. Incluso ten\u00eda el doble de metros cuadrados que actualmente tiene la Axxion, dado que el lugar llegaba hacia lo que hoy es la Colectora Oeste. Claro, fue una d\u00e9cada antes de la llegada de la Panamericana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"932\" height=\"638\" src=\"https:\/\/nuevodigitaldeescobar.com.ar\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/poepye.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4721\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nuevodigitaldeescobar.com.ar\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/poepye.jpg 932w, https:\/\/nuevodigitaldeescobar.com.ar\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/poepye-300x205.jpg 300w, https:\/\/nuevodigitaldeescobar.com.ar\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/poepye-768x526.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 932px) 100vw, 932px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As\u00ed como hoy existe un polo gastron\u00f3mico importante en la calle Mendoza, d\u00e9cadas atr\u00e1s no hab\u00eda tantas opciones, al menos hasta la llegada de Popeye. Luego aparecieron otros a la vera de la ruta. Eso s\u00ed, no se arrepinti\u00f3 de haber vendido en su momento, ya que era una etapa terminada<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Uruguay Vicente Almenara inici\u00f3 sin dinero su idea, que inicialmente se llam\u00f3 El Molino de Oro. Buena atenci\u00f3n, administraci\u00f3n y dedicaci\u00f3n, parte de los pilares que llevaron a varias generaciones a recordar al Restor\u00e1n Popeye.
